Corneotherapy
What is Corneotherapy
Corneotherapy is a science-based approach that focuses on restoring and maintaining the integrity of the skin barrier, specifically the stratum corneum.
Understanding the Skin Barrier
The stratum corneum is often described as a “brick and mortar” structure:
Corneocytes (the bricks) provide physical protection.
Intercellular lipids (the mortar) — primarily ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids — maintain cohesion, flexibility, and water retention.
When the lipid matrix is depleted or disrupted, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) increases. Thus, triggering dehydration, inflammation, microbiome imbalance, and impaired healing.
Barrier impairment is now understood to play a central role in many common concerns, including acne, rosacea, sensitivity, dermatitis, and accelerated aging.
How Corneotherapy Works
Corneotherapy applies targeted strategies that support physiological barrier repair rather than forcing rapid change.
This includes:
Replenishing skin-identical lipids to restore lamellar structure.
Supporting natural desquamation instead of aggressive exfoliation.
Using formulations designed to respect skin pH and barrier enzymes.
Reducing inflammatory triggers that perpetuate barrier dysfunction.
Strengthening the skin’s ability to regulate its own hydration and immune responses.
By restoring barrier integrity, the skin becomes more responsive, resilient, and capable of achieving lasting corrective results.
Corneotherapy at Pure Skin
At Pure Skin, we believe in a holistic approach that works with your skin, not against it. Instead of aggressively treating symptoms (such as acne, redness, or dryness), we look at why the skin barrier is impaired and work to restore the skin’s natural function.
